sorting my files

I am trying to update my files on my computer and it can get a bit crowded if I don’t sort them out directly. Somebody said that it should be better if I back my files up just to be sure that I get all my files incase an update may ruin my hard drive. It’s good to already have some budget software as it lessens the risk of getting unwanted downloads.
