la tegola in ayala

Sometime during the last couple of days before the semester ended, my brother had a project in his Entrepreneurship class and we had to visit a restaurant that their group chose since he was in charge of taking the pictures. So off we went to eat at La Tegola and then had some fill for ourselves.

We knew the drill; order, take pictures, eat, take pictures, go to the bathroom, take pictures. It’s what I’ve been doing most of the time in this blog whenever I want to feature a place that I’ve never been to before.

The ambiance was good great because it has this old homey feel. There’s something about yellow lights that make one nostalgic. As for the food, it was okay, the mango shake wasn’t ripe. Anyway, what I didn’t like was the way we were treated when we just finished eating. Usually, as like any other restaurant, there should be some transition first because you’ve just eaten your meal and Doi was still tinkering the laptop. However, the waitresses including the owner were already picking up our plates. I thought that it was just necessary as we were done with our meals and that’s the procedure nowadays if you’re done with your food. But when we found out that our mats were also cleaned and removed from our table, that was the time when we realized that they were signaling us to get moving. It was evident when they kept apologizing; I thought it was out of courtesy but they were actually waiting for us to leave for other cusotmers waiting outside since the place was already jam-packed.

I just let go of the situation even if my friend Doi’s bubble was about to burst. Upon writing this entry though, I’ve realized that indeed what they didn wasn’t proper. We were done with the food, but they shouldn’t hurry us up. If they wanted to imply something, they should’ve asked us first. But just because we didn’t really dress well enough compared to those customers who were about to come in doesn’t mean that they have to pick our mats up when we’re still busy doing something. Whatever happened to treating your customers equally? Oh well, lesson learned about customer service again.
