Preparing for the Winter Holidays

I’ve been here in the Middle East for over nine months now. My, my, how time has flown so quickly. Despite being stuck working in a retail shop six days in a week, I try my best to travel during my days off. That is, if my body can still keep up with the lack of rest.

I guess I haven’t been used to the work environment ever since I quit my previous job to go freelance and set up my online projects. However, I’m excited in the coming months as I have a month’s worth of vacation leave after a year in the shop.

Mayrhofen: Top Après Ski Delights

If there’s one thing that Mayrhofen excels at (other than its fabulous on and off-piste opportunities), it’s the après ski scene. Arguably one of the liveliest resorts in the Alps, Mayrhofen ski holidays are as much about the nightlife as they are skiing and boarding and as part of your skiing break, it’d be a shame not to immerse yourself in it. Here are a few of the highlights.

Unlike some of the other Austrian ski resorts, such as Solden and Saalbaach, Mayrhofen has a strong British influence, meaning that as British winter holidaymakers, you’re in the right place. With over 70 restaurants, most of which also provide bar facilities as the sun goes down, and plenty of après ski events and festivals hosted throughout the season, Mayrhofen is the epitome of fun, vibrancy and excitement.

Which is better: Bus or Train?

Both trains and buses offer an excellent solution to the continuing need to transport lots of people from A to B with the least amount of damage to the environment (compared to other methods of transport powered by fuel). Few of us work close to our homes anymore, and many of us live miles away from our families, so buses and trains have become an important part of our daily commutes and a good way of visiting loved ones without the expense involved in driving our cars. Buses and trains are also increasingly featuring in our international travel plans as airfares and airport taxes have risen and the time taken to get through security and check-in has increased considerably. Bus lines cover much of Europe and a UK company, iDBUS runs bus lines directly from London to France, then to Holland, Belgium and Italy. Trains also cover these destinations at great speed, but for considerably higher fares. So which of these two favoured options is the best choice for travelling locally or indeed abroad?

When it comes to airport parking, there’s a long list of options to choose from which cater to many different tastes and budgets. For instance, let’s say you’re looking for Stansted Airport Parking – here are the main car parking services you can expect to find:

Standard Long-Stay Parking

Stansted is like a village, with a huge expanse of car parking options at your disposal. Most car parking is based within the airport grounds but is too far to reach on foot, so regular shuttle bus services are laid on to transport passengers and their baggage to and from the airport terminal. Most buses come around every 10-15 minutes, and typically take no longer than 10 minutes to reach the main terminal building. This style of car parking is generally one of the most affordable long-stay options.

Cruise Holidays: A World of Choice

When you’re planning a cruise holiday, there are so many things to take into consideration. Perhaps the most important is destination, and which soul-stirring places you’d like to tick off your must-see list. Do you want to explore the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the Nordic Fjords or the Iberian Sea? Beyond that, which cities have you been hankering after – perhaps the sizzling Mediterranean sights of Barcelona and Palma, or the far-flung must-sees of Sydney and Hong Kong Harbour?

On a cruise holiday you’ll also need to consider how long you want to be away for. Opt for a mini or a taster cruise if you just fancy a quick jaunt and a fun-filled few days away. Most mini cruises are just two or three nights long – perfect for first-timers – while others are slightly longer, perhaps four or five nights. It’s ideal if you’re trying to squeeze in a short, action-packed break without breaking the bank!

Dreaming about Santorini, Greece

santorini houses

One of the destinations in Europe that I am hoping to visit the soonest would be Santorini in Greece. Knowing that I’m now based in the Middle East, more options have come up for me to visit nearer places.

A friend also mentioned that it’s easier to apply for tourist visas. Back in my home country, there are a lot of documents needed at the embassy to travel to these locations. The visa approval rate is also not that high especially when you’re not connected to a company.
