Kawasan Falls

A friend texted me if I was free on a Saturday as she will be celebrating her birthday in Kawasan falls and invited me to join them. When I heard that it’s Kawasan falls –> one of the places that one must visit in Cebu just because it’s accessible (just like Moalboal), I immediately said yes. Well, Yes because they told me that I get to have free food as well. hehe.

I’ve never been to Kawasan (pwamis) and if you’re living in Cebu, this should be one of the first destinations that you need to visit. I wasn’t able to sleep for two days so it was great knowing that I was able to use the travel time to get some sleep.

There are 3 waterfalls in Kawasan, I don’t know if we’ve reached the 3rd one but we couldn’t find any other steps available. After talking to a few colleagues, they told me that the one that we went wasn’t even part of the 2nd falls and what I assumed as the third falls was actually the second. That’s because you have to pass by a very steep and slippery passage where you need to hold on to trees and plants so that you won’t fall. The third falls is also called the “source” for obvious reasons. I was told that there’s also a cave there where you can really appreciate the beauty of Kawasan.

We didn’t go to the source, maybe next time then.

Citilink to Moalboal – 2 hours (van – P100)
Moalboal to Badian – 30 minutes (multicab – P25)
Trek to the falls – 30 minutes Going Home
Bus ride from Badian to Cebu – 3.5 hours (P126)

  1. wow truly a wonderful place… i wanted to go to this place with my friends but i heard a lot of negative rumors … like a lot of people already died especially men. I don’t know how true but it scares me a lot now i am planning to go to Bantayan Island (our province) for a vacation with my family. i’ll be visiting my grandparents and relatives their after 15 years since the last i was there.

  2. meige: yeah, i’ve hear that a lot of men died in this place. that’s why I wasn’t trying to be too adventurous when I was there due to that rumor. Still the place is a wonderful retreat. Too bad, we weren’t able to get to the 3rd falls (which is the source) but it still nice just to witness one of the must-go places here in Cebu. Ahh, Bantayan, been there once only and it was during the habagat season so I wasn’t able to enjoy the sunset there. I have yet to post some pictures there. 🙂

  4. to answer your question. yeah, you can actually just go early in the morning to kawasan. it would be better if you go to moalboal and spend the night there afterwards.

in order to go to kawasan, what we did is go to citilink (which is a terminal for vans that lead to the south of cebu. you can just ask the people there which van to ride for kawasan and they’ll tell you how. you can also ride a bus in the southbus terminal though im not that sure which one. I usually just ask the people around (conductors, drivers, ticketers) to tell me what I need to do.

as for the resorts, im not very familiar with the places there, but you can see a lot of resorts scattered all over moalboal. Last time we were there was that we just rented a room in Ester Resort, Basdaku, Moalboal. We just paid for the room but I forgot the price, we also had to bring our own food there.

But there are a number of backpackers who just brought there tents with them and camped near the water. 🙂

hope this helps and thanks for leaving a comment! 🙂

hannah: kawasan. i can’t really determine how far, but it’s about a 3-4 hour ride i guess. there are rooms for rent there but we didn’t bother to ask the price. thanks for dropping by! 🙂
