One Vacation after Another

You just came from a long vacation and now you’re leaving again?

The expression on his face was priceless. There was no need to answer as I understood that it was a rhetorical question. I just had to smile to eliminate the moment of silence between his eyes and my smirk.

Hong Kong – Macau – Cebu – Boracay

After a trip to Hong Kong and Macau, I spent one day working at the office, and then headed to the airport to catch a flight to Boracay.

September 1-8, 2010 – Hong Kong-Macau
September 9, 2010 – Cebu (working at the office)
September 10-12, 2010 – Boracay

Thailand – Cambodia – Cebu – Davao

After a trip to Thailand and Cambodia, I spent one day working at the office, and then headed to the airport to catch a flight to Davao.

January 18-26, 2011 – Thailand-Cambodia
January 27, 2011 – Cebu (working at the office)
January 28-31, 2011 – Davao

History repeated itself and recalling these two scenarios crack me up. It’s such a crazy situation that even my manager asked me if I was alright.

This was an overwhelming experience that also gave me a lot of catching up to do with work after those dates. You can imagine the ton of emails that I would’ve read if I didn’t bring my laptop with me. That’s why I’m glad to have access to my email on the road. Whenever I was able to catch a quick internet connection, I would read and delete unnecessary messages which helped keep me in the loop at the office. It’s not really something I can recommend as one should not think about work while on vacation. But it saved me a lot of hassle when I transitioned to the office environment after the trip.

I wanted to write about this as I still can’t get over it. Makes one realize that when you think about the times that you think you’re screwed, the universe just conspires and gives you what you’ve asked for. Because of this, I’m truly grateful.

PS: Will be preparing for another trip over the weekend and I don’t think I’ll be able to update this site right away. I’ve so many pending tasks but the next posts will continue more about my trip in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

  4. I think that if I were to come back from a trip and work just one day and leave again, they would probably just tell me to forget about coming back to work.  Although I guess I can't complain.  After all, I asked for and got a two month long vacation from an employer once.
I think you should take advantage of all the trips you can get though.  You just prove the point that if you make travel a priority, you can do it more frequently.

  6. @pusang-kalye: I'm glad to have a flexible schedule and workload. But like any other job, when one has plateaued, one will look for other options. it was my pleasure too anton!

@Steve: haha, I won't argue with your colleagues as my colleagues too would ask me if I'm still working in the same company. True! We just have to sacrifice other things if we want to prioritize one. I'll stop for awhile so I can focus more on producing reports about my travels.

    @Will: haha, thanks WilL!

@JeffZ: yeah, that's one workday in between those two situations. haha, will lie low soon as I haven't booked any major flights after March. will concentrate more on writing blog posts. 😀
