Seven Days in Bali, Indonesia

For seven days, Jana and I were in Bali, Indonesia. This was one of those trips that I booked when I was still working in an office. A promo fare was going on and I was able to book cheap flights to Bali from Kuala Lumpur for about 2500 Php (60 USD) round trip. I’ve also been reading other blogs about the place and I thought it would be nice to visit the island for some surfing lessons.

So what did we do during that one week stay? We bummed.

It’s a bit far from the usual travels I’ve had where I would maximize the time visiting as many places possible. But I think that’s how travelling is. It evolves. You tend to lie low on creating itineraries with complete time and schedules.

Not that you lose interest of going to unfamiliar places, but you feel more grounded that you take your time to explore. Either that or I’ve become lazy. hehe.

Surfing at Kuta Beach, Bali

Surfing is an activity that I’ve always wanted to master, but I’ve never really had as much time to do so due to location. I was able to practice surfing by myself and FAILED miserably on my last attempt when I was wipeout by a huge wave.

I swam in deeper water and I almost drowned because the water was sucking me in whenever I would swim to the surface. Despite the unfortunate incident, I still carried on.

Sunset Everyday at Kuta Beach

I’ve read opinions about Kuta Beach as a not-so-nice destination to go to because there’s just so many people around. But I didn’t mind. We were there just to enjoy and lounge around. It wasn’t dirty according to what others said. Also, even if there were a lot of people, nobody cared and everybody minded their own business. People-watching is also a nice activity to do.

Having spent the previous months without visiting a beach, I craved for the sea. So everyday, we walked five minutes from the guesthouse so we could wait for the sun to set at Kuta Beach.

The beach is very wide and even if it’s not meant for swimming, I love the fact that you can admire the amazing sunset almost everyday. The beautiful red sun would bid the day goodbye, leaving a beautiful hue of the sky.

There’s something about sunsets, and the laidback environment. Probably because I didn’t have to worry about anything and my mind was free from distractions that I accepted whatever nature gave me. I don’t know if I’m even talking sense. hehe.

Tour of a Few Attractions

We spent one day touring a few tourist places in Bali. We went to Dreamland Beach, Uluwatu Temple, and Tanah Lot Temple.

For about 10 hours, we hired a service van that would take us to these tourist attractions that Bali has to offer. Although we weren’t able to maximize the places, so long as we visited a few, it was already fine.

Food Trip

Indonesian dishes like chicken and beef satay and cafe diner meals, it was a variety of food that we enjoyed during the whole seven days.

No Ubud for Us

The initial plan was to spend a day touring Ubud, which is another town in Bali. However, we ended up just going to the beach everyday. It was already enough. That, or I was being lazy again. hehe.

Special thanks to Chyng and Jerome and their blogs for posting their experiences in Bali. These served as our guide for things to do in this beautiful island.

  2. thanks ed! haha, nakaka tamad na talaga gumawa ng kahit ano kapag nasa Kuta beach ka na, and I agree with you, though Kuta is far from the usual beach we have in the Philippines it is unexcpectedly better than what others are saying. I like Kuta, ang lawak nya kasi kaya walang makikialam sa yo kahit madaming tao. hehe

cheers…di ka naman tinatamad or nawawalan ng interest sa travel, nag iiaba na talaga trip ng mga tao kapag tumagal tagal hehe chill, chill na lang unlike before lahat gusto mapuntahan.

  5. I agree, there comes a time when we travel and we just let it take care of us and not the other way around. If going on a slow mode is a way to recharge, then yes, I’ll just lay back and relax.
