what’s new?

it’s a common practice that we or most of us would try to make an
entry that would somehow coincide with the celebration occuring at the
present. but i can’t seem to decide what and where to start. all i’m
saying is that my christmas was okay, fine and simple. good thing that
we’re still complete, despite all odds. different forms of shit have
passed, but our family’s still together. i have to blog something
about this someday. a long entry waiting to be told, that’ll be the
time…

it’s a new year once again! i feel more in the mood right now than
last year. and i still haven’t found the liking in making resolutions
this time. i don’t know why (or don’t know how). hehe. assuming that
this year will be a silent one. no firecrackers and such. i don’t
know, really. we were one of the families who really loaded up during
new year’s eve before. but things have changed. more important
priorities to attend to first. but im sure a lot of jumping will
happen, with me heading the pack of course. hehe.

we’re supposed to start the new year with an optimistic point, only to
find out that thousands have already been taken away to the after-life
without even reaching it. last time i heard, 62 000 people died
because of the disaster that struck some neighboring countries.
Tsunami, never really gave it much thought in science class. but 62
thousand? damn. with just one blow, makes you wonder what’ll happen
next. and to think that this is just one of the consecutive tragedies
that disturbed 2004. what’s there to expect beyond? predictions. yes,
i listened to the random ramblings of some of the pers”HULA”nities on
television. but i didn’t give in to them to get the better of me. just
that they said this is only the start. still our older generation
celebrities will reach the ending point and this is just the beginning
of the many calamities that’ll happen. not to mention new diseases
that’ll hit us.

sigh. did i depress you? hope not. never meant to. just that it’s been
a turbulent year for all, whatever class in society you’re in. some
may beg to disagree. ah not been myself lately, maybe it’s the
vacation. 5 more days left though. no need to rush it even more.

for the sake of having an entry this christmas

barely have time to surf, maybe my schedule just won’t permit. and to
think that it’s christmas break.

is this a curse? when everything’s supposed to turn out right and that
christmas is expected to be better for our family, the rest of the
world (or the country) is mourning over the loss of “DA KING”. is this
price to pay in order to have at least a decent noche buena in our
place?

yeah, been at home almost the whole time, sulking up to what’s showing
on the local tube (all FPJ updates, so you didn’t miss anything), much
to my dismay. i hope that things’ll start getting better soon.

——————————————————————————–

trying to make a christmas entry for cryin’ out loud. but nothing
seems to come up. focus ed. think of something. a happy moment,
something you would like to share. let’s see. here we go.

every christmas eve, when we were still in the durian city, and the
world was bliss, we would go to our lola’s (father’s side) humble
abode and reunite for her sake. compared to my mother’s side, they
were ten siblings in all, so it’s something to look forward to,
especially to the kids (us before) because of the presents and other
pasalubongs. it was a simple sight to behold. grown-ups eating and
drinking like they don’t care if they already have high blood sugar
rates or cholesterols and such. the offsprings talking and playing
with their new toys, also comparing how much one received from their
beloved ninongs and ninangs.
when we had to leave that place, the first noche buena i had without
our relatives was in Makilala, somewhere in North Cotabato (abu
sayyafs and terrorism weren’t present at that time). we were preparing
to leave for manila via cagayan de oro. anyway, we only stayed in an
unfinished house that only had an old concrete room built. (didn’t
even have a bathroom!). was a first coz we ate underneath the stars,
good thing too that it didn’t rain. still was glad, that we were able
to prepare a simple meal to at least keep us full, despite having a
hard time finding a place to do our necessities in the morning. that
was an experience though.

there was also another in Amlan, Negros Oriental, at least the feast
was a little more grand (when i mean grand, meh lechon, nothing more)
than the preceding year. we celebrated it outside, overlooking the
beach, still beneath the stars. other than this, most of my
christmases were boring. we were struggling, so we didn’t really
celebrate “christmas”. we just treated them as ordinary days of the
year.

this time, i’m feeling that this christmas will be a lot better than
last year. though it will not be the same as before, exchanging or
receiving presents, i’m happy.

i’m not playing my part as the responsible citizen because of my
selfishness and i’m somewhat complaining about our situation this
season, coz i know that there are a lot of people who scarcely even
have anything to eat. and i know how it feels, just not during
christmas. (which is worse). anyway, on the over-commercialization of
christmas in the philippines, i really don’t have anything to grumble
about. i think it just adds to the spice of things. to have something
to look forward to, to relatively divert our attention to simpler
things, whether it be materialistic or not. the decorations,
advertisements and other shameless promotions that goes with it just
reminds us of making most out of the festivity which when viewed on
the ideal way, is enlightening. or maybe it’s just my way of thinking.
i must’ve hit my head on something.

this isn’t an entry intended to uplift the spirits of those who have
lost the touch of christmas and its actual meaning. it’s my way of
saying that i still want to go back to before. it’s been 6 years since
we’ve been to my lola’s house, i’m imagining how my other relatives
look now, how much has changed since we’ve left. guessing it’ll be a
lot more years when we can relive that again. in the mean time, i’m
maximizing everything and enjoying what’s left.

“Happy Holidays!”

no sense at all

made this one probably because we had nothing else to do. answers are found below. by the way, don’t cheat! it’ll take the fun of figuring out away from this already lame entry. unless you really just don’t have time for it.
1. a father owned a lot. and divided it EQUALLY among his 4 children. divide it. this is the shape of the lot.

2. with just 4 strokes, divide the cake into 4 equal parts.

3. add five lines to make it ten.

but i still haven’t figured this one out (since first year high!) . does anyone know how to draw this figure without lifting the pen???

saw this in a shop underneath a big clock.

“This clock will never be stolen, everyone’s always watching it.”

and now answer this as quickly as possible.

4. Henry’s mother has four children. Winter, Spring, Summer and _______.

answers:

1.

2.

3.

4. if you’ve answered Fall or Autumn (like in my case, both. -bwisit-), they’re wrong. answer is Henry. toink.

comparison

“free at last, free at last! thank God Almighty, i am free at last”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

a chain was broken. arms not….. who am i too kid myself? don’t have time to be poetic. am not good in that. what im trying to say is that i’m free! okay, not quite. just that i don’t have time to think of working on a regular basis anymore. my contract has ended. and they didn’t pour buckets of water on me (one of the unregistered traditions when it’s your last day), maybe because i was sick.

was trying to make a list of the contributions i did to the two stores (jollibee and kfc) and this is what i came up with.

Jollibee: November 12, 2003 - May 03, 2004
Position:

  1. Jollibee Express Delivery Service (JEDS) Operator

—> in-charge of answering all telephone calls within the stores premises (we have 4 di fferent phones). and if it’s a call for delivery, i get to be the one who takes the order, assembles it and gives it to the rider –and in some cases, also delivers by foot or by ride just to meet the standard delivery time; otherwise, i have to deal with customer complaints for the next few minutes or so).

  2. Store Marketing Assistant (SMART)
—> tries to improve the traffic count of the store and introducing new products to the customers. in-charge of putting up banners, posters, toys, and other merchandise for marketing and the like.
—> in-charge of hosting parties (but since our store was small, we don’t have kiddie parties — thank God! –), and making reports of our store’s standing with regards to the promotions, both local and national.
—> also in-charge of being our store marketing officer’s proxy in boring meetings and relays the agenda to him.

Ed’s REPORTS:

  •
    •
      • Tuna Pie Monitoring (when it was launched last year)
    •
      • Meatier Spaghetti (remember the ad? Jolly Spaghetti na ngayon!)
      • Ranger For Your Hunger (only in the Vis-Min regions)
      • Customer Survey (we conduct customer surveys once every other month to see how we’ve progressed or digressed when it comes to improving the store’s three key target points: Food, Service and Cleanliness
      • JEDS Turn-Around-Time (TAT) Summary (i get to summarize and tally our performance both in sales and service)

Outside-Store Activities:

  •
    •
      •
        • MaAGA ang Pasko sa Jollibee 2003 - we visited a small town and helped in giving out used toys to the children there
        • Bulk-Orders in December 2003 - we visited some schools and tried to market our products for their Christmas parties.
        • Community Outreach - went to two nearby public schools and gave out medals and certificates to their top 10 graduates. was also able to write a photo caption and it was published in the local newspaper. and it felt so good, even though it was just a small piece of writing

Kentucky Fried Chicken: July 01 - November 30, 2004
Position:

  1. Counter Service Station
—> frontliner in giving the customers and assisting them. one who takes charge in taking, assembling and dispatching the orders in real time.

that’s probably it. you may have noticed that i had so many contributions to the former store i worked for. i’m quite surprised myself. in kfc, the only consolation i got that i really liked was i got to eat their products whereas in jollibee (since it was a franchise), i don’t. instead, there’s a carenderia that they tied up with to provide our food but with some privilege of course. and after thinking over and over again. i’d rather eat in a carenderia than eating the same meal (even though it’s kfc’s fried chicken!) everyday.

i’d rather choose a work that would help me develop what needs to be developed and whose bosses sees the better of me than another who doesn’t. before, in jollibee, i hated the many responsibilities my manager would give me. but now, i’m, starting to regret not doing some of them. even if those projects were his job (note: i’m only his assistant which means i get to HELP, not do the work; but i’m not saying that i did ALL of his work), i learned a lot. compared to my fellow assistants, who seldom had assignments besides the regular operations, i was given a lot of opportunities to do more than what’s expected of me. the exposure i got was more than a common fastfood worker could ask for. the trust that the higher people had given me is what’s most… satisfying (couldn’t think of another word). and it’s especially nice if you see and actually feel that you’re not useless.

in kfc, i was good (humbleness aside). but it felt like i wasn’t giving enough which made my situation monotonous. well, of course, there may be some days when things really are just dull. i guess it’s also my fault. i wasn’t contented with my position. my station had some limitations that weren’t that suitable for me. i had no time to complain. but they treated me well. it’s just the sense of accomplishment that i’m looking for that weren’t met is what i’m murmuring about.

so to choose, i’d rather “bee happy” than “finger lickin’ good”. of course, we all have different experiences in different companies… so it’s not right to generalize everything. but enough of this, i just made this list so i can have a basis when i’ll enter the ‘big world’, pandagdag sa resume kumbaga. and with the informations i’ve disseminated (in details), i hope no one sues me. am just a legal kid sharing his side of the world to fellow net-freaks out there. i have no intention of defaming or discouraging anyone, i’m just sharing.

eitherway, i’m still free.
