Mayrhofen: Top Après Ski Delights

If there’s one thing that Mayrhofen excels at (other than its fabulous on and off-piste opportunities), it’s the après ski scene. Arguably one of the liveliest resorts in the Alps, Mayrhofen ski holidays are as much about the nightlife as they are skiing and boarding and as part of your skiing break, it’d be a shame not to immerse yourself in it. Here are a few of the highlights.

Unlike some of the other Austrian ski resorts, such as Solden and Saalbaach, Mayrhofen has a strong British influence, meaning that as British winter holidaymakers, you’re in the right place. With over 70 restaurants, most of which also provide bar facilities as the sun goes down, and plenty of après ski events and festivals hosted throughout the season, Mayrhofen is the epitome of fun, vibrancy and excitement.

The Snowbombing Festival is a particular highlight of the season – this year saw Kasabian, Example, Rudimental and a huge number of well-known DJs take to the stage and 2014 will only be better. The festival next year runs between the 7th and 12th April if you’re hoping to coincide your visit.

The two major nightclubs in the resort (yes, two!) are the Speak Easy Arena and Schlüsselalm, which are both open until the early hours of the morning if you want to get your dancing shoes on. Alternatively, the White Lounge ice hotel complex, located on the mountain itself, is a popular haunt and often considered to be one of the best nightspots in the resort – Tuesdays are particularly vibrant.

Don’t feel like the nightlife in Mayrhofen will be the be all and end all of this resort, because it’s not. If you want to experience the snow opportunities without delving into the hectic nightlife seen, this is entirely possible – various areas of the town provide quieter evening experiences too.

An all-round resort with plenty to offer, take a look at Mayrhofen for your winter ski break.
