blog history: come a long way baby

my diary. my journal. my memories. my blog.

i was searching at yahoo for a contact or any info regarding my former school in davao. besides, i didn’t have anything to do, and when unlimited internet access in your school permits, you’re bound to end up somewhere. i stumbled upon a schoolmate’s (a batch higher) personal webbie. i browsed through its pages and was amused of her work. that was the time i was introduced to blogging. i saw one of her links and tried to learn more about it. and so in that course, i decided to make one for myself.

thus dgboy.blog-city.com was born. now why the nick? it’s very silly when you think about it. i couldn’t come up with a pen name, so i tried to copy others’ style. i saw a blog of darkblue and knew that my fave color’s darkgreen. i also chanced upon cnbgirl’s blog. that’s why i came up with dgboy (darkgreenboy), pretty lame huh? there’s really no deep meaning to it. it’s just my favorite color. that simple.

after a few months, dgboy became awkward and not really me. i didn’t want to be called dgboy when i’m already old (hehe). that’s when i tried to come up with another nick. dgboy was replaced with ed. (so glad it was still available) why ed? aside from being the first syllable of my name, it still sounds anonymous. besides, i’m also the ED (editor) of my own blog. and becoz people don’t usually call me ed, it’s either eds, edz, cell or soy. now i laugh at the thought of it.

i sounded so innocent and corny at my first entrys . fortunately, two people made some comments. and drei the martian was my first blogmate. i was still experimenting with my bloggie back then, got lots of boo-boos along the way. but that’s part of the learning process.

on being anonymous, i tried not to tell that i have a blog. not that anyone would really care. but later on, i told about five people. sort of a safekeeping incase something happens to me (though i’m not praying). like someone can read and decipher how my life went through after some years. besides, i still want people to read it after i’m gone (again, i’m not praying hehe).

this blog has been the journal i’ve always wanted but couldn’t keep due to security reasons (there’re 6 people in the house, it’s bound to end up on the wrong hands. hehe). met lots of interesting and diverse people along the way. didn’t know i could also make friends. before, i hardly knew anybody, especially if you’re not from the metropolis. but i guess distance doesn’t matter. now, i have more than a handful of blogmates, blogsters, blogistas or whatever you call it. blogging maybe a boon to some or a bane others. and looking back on a year that was, i can say this blog has come a long way. i’m not saying that i’m a professional blogger. i can’t even update it as often as i want to. maybe because thoughts won’t come out right. i don’t automatically type my entries in my blog, i usually have a pen and paper as my guide. so when i have time to blog (which is practically everyday), i can directly let my eyes and fingers do the talking. for i can’t stand making my entries while staring at a blank screen. that just isn’t me.

my entries, as you can read, aren’t that hard to understand. for i try to live my life as simple as possible. or maybe i don’t try to live simply, it just is. i don’t have a car, i don’t play any instrument. i’m not a movie critic but i love watching them. i’m not mentally deranged. i like to take pictures but i don’t own a camera. i’m not an avid music fan. i don’t have problems with cellphone loads coz i never had one. i work at a fastfood joint. and i’m not in school, yet. i help do the family’s laundry when it’s my restday. i enjoy walking alone and being carefree, not careless. i don’t have a lovelife and i only sometimes hate the world. i stutter when i speak. religion for me sucks right now, but that doesn’t mean i don’t have faith. i don’t have designer labeled shoes and shirts. i worry about money often, i worry about the fare i pay when going to work. i’m not really sophisticated. i’m not articulate. which you can probably see or read. i just had the knack for books recently. and the national bookstore is one of my favorite hang-outs, next to internet cafes of course. i’m not that informative. i call myself a traveler because we transfer from place to place, but didn’t say the real reason why we kept on changing environments. i’m naive, not to mention pessimistic (hehe).

i’m glad i found the joy of blogging the time when i needed it the most. fresh into college and in the state of depression. anticipating every moment when my highschool friends would send me something, but still sad of seeing the big picture. that change is inevitable. great therapy for accidental loners like me. living with no one to talk to that much. that’s why i have lots of entries that pertained to the past. but now, i’m trying to move on, while having my blog friends to share my time to time experiences.

before, i had some problems on what to write/blog about. i had this fear of not having enough topics to post. then i thought that i was attempting to impress other people. which shouldn’t be. it’s about expressing. nevertheless, i also realized that even the most mundane entries of my life is exciting enough if you put a little something in it. and by that, i don’t mean lying. besides, we all lead different lives. why shouldn’t mine be any more interesting?

just like what paul said before, people tend to judge you by your blog. i can’t blame them either. sure, blogging is one of the ways of expressing yourself. but that doesn’t mean everything. we still have issues that we want to keep (well, for me at least). the problem with that is people assume things if they don’t know. they think that they have a clear depiction of who you are. only one solution to that: ask. why bother trying to make a profile out of a certain person and ending up wrong? you only have to ask in order to know. this blog has only been an extension of what i truly am. it’s a nice outlet of belting out my frustrations and misadventures.

woohoo!!! my blog’s one year old!!! i love the feeling. it’s something i can be proud of. not everyone has a blog. but i did. and i chose to. hope to have more blogging years to come. still enjoying the simplicity of blog-city, so that leaves migrating to the other side out of the picture; for now. flipping through the pages of my previous entries and meeting blog friends, i’ve surely come a long way. and therefore i conclude, that i do have a life after all.

CNBGirl made this comment,
btw, eto nga pala yung utang ko sayo:
Two ways:
First:
• Decrease the file size of your music by decoding it to a lower bitrate (I used 8kbps bitrate). Not so good sound quality but it will not hog bandwidth… much.
• Create a flash movie (.swf) using either Macromedia Flash or Swish. For beginners in flash, I suggest that you use Swish.
– Create your animated header and add your music (either .wav or .mp3) to the movie.
– The movie is saved as .swi so you must export the file as .swf.
– Note: Remember the RGB of the background color of your blog header if you want it to be the same as the background color of your animated header.
• Upload the .swf movie to a server (I use Freewebs).
• Add this code to your blog header:
(DIV align=center)(EMBED
pluginspage=http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/ align=center
src= width=500 height=75
type=application/x-shockwave-flash quality=”high”)(/DIV)
Second:
(embed src=”http://www.freewebs.com/cnbgirl/theoneyoulove.mp3 ” width=”102″ height=”45″ autostart=”true” autoplay=”true” loop=”true” volume=”100%”)
You would see a stop, play button with this one. If you want to hide it, put hidden = “yes” inside the <> or change the width and height to zero
Note:
Palitan mo ng <> yung mga ().
