After finding out that my friend’s credit was already added to her other card and she gave me the go signal, off we went to SM to buy the camera I was eyeing for.
So I heeded everyone’s comments and gave way, not that I’m regretting any decision though. I’m about the only one who was considering the Pentax in the first place. hehe. Nevertheless, I got the Olympus, the black one at the Colours Photoshop in SM since it was still the same price the last time I’ve checked.
Before we bought, *ehem* I mean, before my friend swiped her card for it, we were told that there was a price change from about 20K to 22K. *&!%#&^(@# They just received a memo and that they were not able to change the price on the display because of the fact (fact? yeah right) that the one in-charge was on break. *&!%#&^(@#. The former cost was only good if we paid in cash. We definitely didn’t accept that explanation.
The tag was clearly indicated on the display and we specifically went to that store cause we wanted a good deal. We complained about it, of course. The staff called a superior and we got what was bargained for initially.
Good thing I have very good consumers who tagged along cause if it were only me, I’d be having a bit of a time, more so that something literally caught my eye and I could only see on my right. I’m still practicing my stance in getting demanding proper service and knowing my rights as a consumer; though I was already able to try some in Harbour Dimsum when we ate there in another time. haha.
So after all the fuss, we got the camera and I was grinning proud.

9 months is 9 months. Like a baby, huh?
To the kind and generous soul (I’m not mentioning the name for security, haha), I promise I won’t run away from you, I’ll crawl. hehehe. Joke!
It’s funny how I would sometimes become the official photographer during team outings and people would wonder how come I have so many albums created when in reality, I don’t own a camera. I’ve been bugging myself to get one ever since the 13th month bonus was a couple of months away. But it’s already January and my pay was used for other means that were more important during that time.
The urge to buy a digital camera is now almost at its peak. Anytime this week or maybe next, I may be able to buy one. Since I still don’t own a credit card, a kind soul is generous enough to lend some of her credit in order for me to purchase a camera. Ah, the wonders of 0% interest. Things are really lighting up right now as it’s already almost within reach.
This is a big deal for me as I’m planning to use this not only for my fancy, but also as an investment. I love taking pictures and capturing pure moments in life. And it doesn’t hurt either that women would ask me to take their photos in various poses for the sake of vanity especially at the beach. *wink, wink*
I’ve tried different brands from friends: Kodak, Sony, Canon, Casio, Pentax & Olympus. But right now I’m torn between two models. A big deal for me durability and versatility, especially since I’m still a beginner. But I don’t want to compromise picture quality though.

Olympus SW790 or Pentax W30?
The reason why I want a waterproof camera is to free myself from the burden of worrying about keeping the camera dry whenever I’ll be at the beach or when it’s raining. Both more or less have the same features as I’ve checked countless reviews from different sites and it seems that these two have been pitted against each other, again because of their similarities. Both have 7.1 Megapixels, use lithium ion batteries, are waterproof up to 5 feet and are good brands.
Mostly the differences I’m considering are as follows:
Durability:
Olympus is more durable and sturdy because of it being shockproof from a height of 5 feet. I’ve read a few complaints fron people when they first used Pentax, saying it leaked when they tested it on water.
-But I don’t have any intentions of dropping a camera nor will I be complacent of letting it drop. As for the Pentax complainants, I’m assuming they mishandled it.
Video Quality:
640×480 at 30 frames per second is only limited to 10 seconds for the Olympus camera; for the Pentax, it will depend on its memory.
-But I don’t plan on using the camera for videos, so I guess having the Olympus is okay. Besides, recording a 20 sec video clip consumes already a huge space that I don’t have any intention of uploading a size of 170 MB on YouTube, unless I rip it or convert it to a lower resolution which totally eliminates the reason of setting in Super high quality in the first place.
Picture Quality:
According to the reviews as well, Pentax has a better quality amongst the two when taking shots.
-I have already tested a friend who owns another model of this Olympus SW series. As for Pentax, it’s going to be a risk, but I don’t think they’re going to compromise anything as well. Pentax is Pentax, I’m just not sure of their ratings in the point-and-shoot digital market. But when I checked some sample photos over different sites, they look fine.
Appearance:
Based on its appearance, Olympus has an edge since it’s better-looking cause it seems stylish and cool. I don’t mind the thickness of the Pentax, just that its buttons look childish.
-Pentax suits my personality more than the Olympus, not because of the childish description though.
Price Tag:
Last time I checked, Pentax is much cheaper because it only costs 16, 000 Php compared to the Olympus which is 26, 000 Php. However, the latter has a promo where they slashed 6, 000 off which is really a great deal.
-I’d definitely go for Pentax. 4, 000 Pesos is 4, 000 Pesos. But then again, when using paylite, the budget isn’t that constricted.
External Memory:
Pentax uses SD card. Olympus uses xd which you have to buy from Olympus manufacturers/dealers which is more expensive.
- I’ll be getting 1 Gig memory for either both. It’s just the assurance that I can buy a generic SD card at really cheap rates here that I’m thinking twice.
I’ve done a lot of researching, believe me. I know I shouldn’t expect much especially for a point-and-shoot digicam that’s already waterproof, but I just want to get the most out of my purchase.
In conclusion, I guess I’ll probably buy the Olympus. But if they change its price back to 26, 000, I’ll definitely be opting for the Pentax. Sigh, can’t believe this is giving me a hard time to decide. But I know I should stop complaining already, I’m lucky enough to be getting one.
I have sleeping and shitting issues again due to the frequent change of schedules. Sheesh. Good thing we’re almost done with our training.
The previous week had been a binge on food tripping. Since our trainer is a Vietnamese who’s been to Cebu just for our training, almost everybody he had worked with has been taking him to different places here for his enjoyment.
Pizza at Da Vinci’s & Roma Mia, siomai and barbecue at Larsian, AA’s Barbecue, and City Grill, baby back ribs at Casa Verde, and even roadrip from Mactan to the South Reclamation Project (SRP); don’t forget the ever reliable discounts at Jollibee.

Spending time with John (his name) had been awesome, such a cool guy to work with. No hang-ups or superiority complex issues unlike other people we’ve encountered. Now he’s off somewhere, back to Canada maybe.

Sinulog’s up and everybody’s in a a busy and festive mood. Finally, I was able to see other tourists aside from the usual Koreans usually visit. Not that I have a problem with Koreans, but it’s actually a breath of fresh air knowing there are other nationalities who make it a point to experience this anual affair.
I’m also hoping that it won’t rain since it’s been doing so the past few days ever since the new year started. I don’t know yet where I’ll be heading since I don’t like to be in crowded places. Anyway, Pit Señor everyone!

I got Rich Dad Poor Dad as a present since I posted it as one of my wish lists during one of our exchange gifts. I’ve heard a lot of talks about this book and how it helps a lot in breaking the mold of what we used to think would make us wealthy in the end.
When I read it, I got hooked; because I also couldn’t get my head to absorb anything the past days due to lack of brain activity. This is the first book I’ve read in months.
Rich Dad Poor Dad talks about Robert Kiyosaki’s (the author) 2 fathers, which is actually his biological pop, and his friend’s pop. The former believed in the conventional way that for a person to be successful in life, one should study hard and get a degree to get a stable job for security. The higher the education one would attain, the better the salary; which in turn, will constitute that notion of success. But there was a problem in the end between the organization that he was working for which ended on a sour note since his Poor Dad lost his job; hence the term ’poor’. The latter, however, was an 8th grade drop out but learned how to make money work for him early. The Rich Dad invested his money into useful deals and let his money grow. In the end, he became a self-made multi-millionaire regardless of his educational attainmentl; hence, ‘rich’.
Don’t work so you can earn, work so you can learn.
What should I do so I can afford it?
Don’t work for money, make it work for you.
Funny how it seems that the words written (well some of them) are also what I used to hear from my father back when we just started working. Not that my father has read the book, cause I don’t see/remember him reading one in the first place.
Such phrases don’t mean much when you’re young. But they make you think twice on what to do with money. Most especially now that I’m earning more than the average income even if I’m an undergrad. Not that the monthly salary that I take home will satisfy me till eternity. Since I also have to contribute to the house, knowing that mom and pop doesn’t have a stable income due to life and starting a family early.
Try to find ways to generate cash even if you’re not physically there.
The idea I’m trying to pursue at the present is also working and earn some more while I’m at it. Growth while I’m not doing anything and to be financially literate. To put to good use the knowledge I’ve acquired through the years I’ve started working. The job that I have is my profession, finding a sideline that will add to that income is what I need to concentrate more.
Going back to the book, differentiating between an asset and a liability in simple terms enlightened me a lot on which is really which.
Asset = money that comes into your pocket.
Liability = money that goes out of your pocket.
It served as an eye-opener for me as to how I should I start spending as well as investing in something that I could make use of in the end. Acquiring income that came from an income. I may sound confusing, but the book really makes it clear. Although it seems that it’s pertaining more into venturing into real estate, and I’m still confused on where and how to start if ever that’ll be part of my plans, what matters are the techniques and the confidence that I should hone so I can make better use of my resources and turn them into profitable ventures.
I used to sell and helped people sell stuff on the floor. Right now, I can’t due to policy changes. I find it funny when people ask me what I have available when I’m not bringing anything anymore. It makes me smile that they remember me as the businessman who sold goods and food for them to eat at their convenience, and I don’t even look that Chinese.
Most people are poor because when it comes to investing, the world is filled with Chicken Littles running around yelling, “The sky is falling. The sky is falling.”
After reading the book, a workmate noticed a different aura in me when talking about promotions and our work environment. Most of the time before, I would just complain about our compensation and the people around us; that we never really got enough. But now, I’ve somewhat understood that although money is an important factor, it’s not everything. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m saying it anyway. It’s more on the learning experiences and being exposed to a different side which matters more since I can see it in a different perspective. Bitterness will lead me nowhere except to be more bitter. And if I continue the same attitude, I’ll still end up being the loser.
The only way to get out of the ‘Rat Race’ is to prove your proficiency at both accounting and investing, arguably two of the most difficult subjects to master.
Sure, I may seem so idealistic and surreal for being such an optimist when in reality, I’m more of the opposite. I may be all talk and all my talks are mostly bull crap, but I can’t help it. It’ll be a daunting task, but I have to set my goals straight and ultimately move forward. It goes with maturity maybe and growth, as well as the desire for change and be more independent.
I highly recommend this book to anybody who wants to just open their mind to different posibilities on how to expand what they’ve got, and to people who want to stop complaining on why the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer and want to understand the concepts of why this is so.
We’ll see what’ll happen. I’m just maintaining my focus and I don’t want to break the momentum now that I’ve already started.

2007 was, in general, a good year for me. And according to some useful tips from different books I’ve read, I should focus more on the positive things that happened to me.
So what’s in store for me this 2008? Well, more work and more work!
I’m planning to find other means to earn some income, hence the blogging business. Thinking more of how I can make everything turn out well, I should start first with myself.
I resolve/plan to:
I have other plans but I can’t think of anything more for now.
Happy New Year to one and all!
