Sagada Trip: Weekend Saturday Market

After the sunrise at Kiltepan Peak, we headed back to our inn so we could freshen up and eat breakfast. But we had to finish up fast as we were going to have another adventure by trekking to Bomod-ok Falls.

Tita Myrna and Tito Raul decided to just stay to rest while we rode our vehicle heading to the starting point of our trek. Prior to the ride, we passed by the main street in Sagada where we witnessed the Saturday market.

Sagada Saturday Market

Every Saturday, Sagada townsfolk line up the street with stalls with different merchandise. These can range from school supplies to hardware to fresh produce to clothes.

pants, hoodies, jewelry, gloves, mats, etc..

People were busy buying and checking out the items and it felt really nice looking at them transact business with each other. It made me want to scan each product being sold just for the heck of it.

HUGE! Vegetables

But what really amazed me were the huge, HUGE! vegetables. Can’t really stress this enough. haha. Cabbages, broccoli, cauliflowers and other fresh produce were available for you to buy. All HUGE!

You can even bargain to get them at a cheaper price. This is, after all, in the Mountain province where agriculture is one of their main sources of livelihood.

These stalls stretch from the plaza to St. Mary’s Church  and I was lucky to have witnessed this town gathering. It gives you a feel of how the locals interact with one another.

Agar-Agar

I saw a woman selling Agar-Agar (gelatine) in milk and cream. I thought it was buko salad. I bought a cup for 20 pesos. I also bought a piece of mango from another lady and requested a knife to slice it on the spot. I asked for strawberries from my friend who bought a kilo and decided to mix them together.

Voila! – Agar-agar with strawberries and mangoes! So how was it? It tasted like agar-agar with strawberries and mangoes! bwahahaha.

Seriously, it was a bit bland and I wanted to request for sugar, but then I’d have to look for one too. However, we had to proceed to our destination fast if we wanted to maximize our time.

I’d like to visit this place again even if it means traveling for 12 hours from Manila. I’ll probably check other promos or subscribe to flight checker updates if I want to head back to Sagada and try living there for at least a week.

  5. That gelatin, mangoes and strawberries drink looks pretty good.  But I bet it would taste better if you could mix them up a little more and add some sugar.  I have to say that this market looks fun.  The vegetables are huge and the number of different items to look at would be interesting to go through.  I'd probably end up buying something if I were there though.

  6. Ah I see..

I love the pictures of the two lolas by the way. Parang busy busy sila sa pagchichikahan. hehe 🙂
